A chalazion is a slow-growing inflammatory lump in the tear gland of the eyelid. It may develop when something blocks a small oil gland in the eyelid. Rosacea, chronic blepharitis, seborrheic dermatitis, tuberculosis, and viral infections can also cause this condition.
The common symptoms of chalazion are painless bumps usually developing on the upper eyelids, irritation in the eyes, and blurred vision. Normal ways to treat chalazion are warm compresses, antibiotics, steroid shots, surgery, etc. Homeopathy can also treat the condition effectively, gently, and safely with no adverse effects. Let’s have a look at a case of chronic chalazion treated with homeopathy.
Case Study
A 51-year-old patient (PIN: 38617) approached Life Force’s Chembur office on 22nd November 2018 for the treatment of his complaints of chalazion, which he was suffering from for 2 years. His main symptoms were pain and irritation in the eyes. He was presenting hard swelling on both the upper and lower eyelid of the left eye. The patient had to take antibiotics every time he had an episode of chalazion.
A detailed case history was taken considering both his physical and mental generals.
Physical Generals:
The patient had an average appetite with cravings for spicy, salty, and sour food items. He had an aversion to garlic. His thirst was average, and he drank 1 to 1.5 liters of water daily. He had average perspiration. The patient couldn’t bear extreme climates. He enjoyed a sound sleep and had no recurrent dreams as such while asleep.
Psychological and Family Make-Up:
His psychological aspect was also considered during the case taking.
He was a mild, gentle person but, sometimes, used to get irritated at his office due to the job pressure.
His childhood history was asked; he had a happy childhood with a well-supportive family. He had a satisfactory marital relationship and was well-settled both professionally and in his personal life. His intellectual sphere was considered. His memory, logic, intelligence, perception, and analysis were all good.
His general and physical examination was done. His BP and weight were checked and updated.
Self and Family’s Medical History:
His history of ailments and treatment history were asked about in detail and updated. The patient had a history of a hernia operation, which was done 15 years back. Also, his family history of ailments was asked about and updated.
After studying his case history in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed his research-based medicines to the patient.
Follow-Ups:
During his first follow-up on 18th January 2019, the patient was 10% better. There was marginal improvement in reduction in the chalazion’s size, however, there was no change in the number of styes. He experienced a very slow improvement in the initial few follow-ups.
By 11th September 2019, the patient was fully better. The styes had vanished and the patient was able to get rid of his dependency on antibiotics.
The patient was very happy that he no longer needed allopathic medicines and was thankful to Dr. Shah and his entire team for the excellent results.
Conclusion:
This case illustrates that homeopathy is highly effective in treating chalazion. Homeopathy not only treats the tendency for recurrent stye formation but also improves immunity and helps prevent recurrent infections and inflammatory conditions affecting the eyes. Timely intervention with homeopathy may save you from surgery in the most harmless way. Homeopathy gives long-lasting and permanent relief from chalazion.
