10 years old girl, Miss. K.G.V. (Patient Ref. No. S2633) was brought to the clinic by her father for complaints of vitiligo for the last 2 months. Her parents had initially noted a few depigmented spots on her abdomen for which they had taken her to their family physician. He had prescribed her some local steroidal ointment which helped her to some extent on a few spots. When the other spots did not respond favorably to the treatment and when she started developing a few spots on her scalp with whitening of the hair strands in the affected parts, her parents were concerned and they took her to a local dermatologist who diagnosed her as having vitiligo. She had a few scattered spots on the abdomen, face, and thighs.
She also had complaints of bedwetting which was more frequent in the past. Previously she would pass urine in bed almost daily but at present, her frequency of bedwetting was about once in 2 weeks. She would occasionally complain of itching in the anal region which would get better after deworming medication was prescribed to her by her family physician.
Her appetite was normal and she was fond of cheese. She did not like sweets much. She would sweat profusely all over the body, especially on the scalp. Her bowel movements were normal and she had no complaints about these. Her sleep was sound on average.
She lived with her parents and one elder sister. Her father described her as a child of serious nature. She would be very particular about the cleanliness of her things, room, books, etc. She would not be willing to use public toilets if she found them unclean. She was a friendly child with a pleasant nature, her parents said that people would adore her and long for her company. She was fond of athletics and swimming. She had a sympathetic nature.
She did not have a history of any major illness in the past. Her grandfather and 2 of her grandfather's sisters had vitiligo. Apart from this, there was no history of any other major illness in the family.
Based on the above history, she was prescribed Phosphorus 200 along with a dose of Carcinosin 200 for her complaints. After about 2 months of treatment, she had shown 50% improvement in her spots. The spots on the back were still further better after another 1 month of treatment. She stopped getting any new spots and the old ones started showing good signs of repigmentation. There was a minor change in the vitiligo spot on her scalp and the hair continued to remain grey. They had been informed before that the hair which had already turned grey would not become the normal color again but the vitiligo spots on the scalp would definitely get better. Another 2 months of treatment showed good results and all her spots cleared up completely including the one on her scalp. Overall she responded very well to the Homoeopathic treatment and her family was very glad about opting for Homoeopathic treatment at the right time.
Remark: The remedy prescribed in these cases is patient-specific i.e. it has been prescribed based on the symptoms specific to the patient at that point in time. It is advisable that the patient does not indulge in any self-medication.
