Lichen planus is an unpleasant, inflammatory skin condition that happens to affect your skin and mucous membrane. It presents with characteristic symptoms such as swelling and irritation in the skin, hairs, nails, and mucous membranes.
Lichen planus generally comes under autoimmune disease but may result due to other factors, such as side effects of certain drugs or as an associated symptom of hepatitis C. Some of the other causative factors of lichen planus include:
- Viral infections
- Allergens
- Stress
- Genetics
The following are the common symptoms of lichen planus.
- Purplish-colored lesions or bumps on the skin and mucous membrane
- Lesions that are spreading in nature
- Itchy lesions
- Lacy white lesions in the mouth (gums, inner aspect of cheeks)
- Irregular longitudinal grooving and ridging of the nail plate, thinning of the nail plate, atrophy of nail bed, etc.
Fortunately, you have homeopathy to treat the condition gently, effectively, and safely with no adverse effects. Let’s have a look at how homeopathy treated a lichen planus patient incredibly.
Case study
A 38-year-old patient (PIN: 39066) visited Life Force Homeopathy on 8th January 2019 for the treatment of oral lichen planus, from which he was suffering for the last 7 months. The patient on his first visit was presenting symptoms such as white lacy lesions on the tongue, inner cheeks, and gums. The patient had a burning sensation in the mouth, particularly while eating spicy and hot food.
On physical examination, no lesions were noticed on the skin. Nails were healthy and had no deformity.
His family history was asked to rule out the genetic link. Also, his medical history was asked about. He was not on medications.
A thorough and detailed case taking was done.
Physical Generals:
The patient’s appetite was average, and he was a vegetarian. He had cravings for spicy food and fruits, such as oranges and bananas. The patient used to drink 2-3 liters of water/day. His addictions included alcohol (1-2 times/week) and cigarettes (one daily). He also had an addiction to tea (4-5 cups daily). His motion was satisfactory, and he had no complaints related to the urine. When asked, the patient told us that his sleep was good and had no disturbances or repeated dreams coming in his sleep. Thermally, his body couldn’t tolerate the hot weather.
Dr. Shah went through the case file in detail and prescribed the medicines after evaluating the whole case. The patient was also advised to control his addictions and to follow the diet chart of lichen planus that was given to him.
Follow-Ups:
At his first follow-up on 2nd March 2019, the patient told us that he had improved by 5%. His complaints were getting worse while having hot and spicy food.
At his second follow-up on 27th April 2019, there was no noticeable change was noticed. The following follow-ups also showed no further improvement.
By 4th November 2019, the patient started feeling better by 50%. Most of his lesions had started clearing. Also, his burning sensation had slightly reduced.
By 4th March 2020, the patient was overall better by 80%. He could now easily have spicy food without much discomfort and pain.
By 9th January 2022, the patient got fully 100% recovered from his oral lichen planus complaints. All the lesions had cleared. Even the burning sensation and pain were no longer present.
The patient was extremely happy and thankful to Dr. Shah and the entire team at Life Force for the wonderful results that he experienced.
