A 54 years old gentleman, Mr T.S. reported to the center on 23 January 2010 for the treatment of chronic Lichen Planus. He was suffering from Lichen Planus since the last 20 years. He has several relapses in the past. He would use steroid tablets to treat the relapses. Prolonged use of steroids had taken a toll on his health. He had gained weight, he had a rise in blood pressure and the blood sugar was on the borderline.
His dermatologist had stopped giving him oral steroids because of borderline diabetes and local steroid creams were not working.
When he visited the center he had several active lesions on legs, thighs, waist, hands and the genitals. There was severe itching and scratching led to bleeding.
He was given anti-histamines but they were also not effective.
There was some relief in itching after applying ice or cold water.
The itching was more in summer, heat and in periods of stress.
He also suffered from chronic acidity. The acidity was more severe when he would take any steroids.
He was obese, he had good sleep.
The patient was a chief officer working in a central government institute.
He stayed with his wife.
He had two children; both were highly educated and well placed.
The patient had a lot of difficulties in his childhood. He had to face a lot of hardship due to poverty, strained relations between parents and responsibility of younger siblings.
He had felt uncared for from his parents.
He is a cool and composed person. He is responsible and has to work long hours.
He is sensitive to cold. He can not tolerate the winter.
Dr Shah examined him and prescribed Silica 30 and later on 200 C. He was also given Thuja 200 C.
Gradually there was good relief in his Lichen Planus. The lesions healed completely and new spots stopped.
He was asked to refrain from all types of steroids, creams, and tablets.
He was completely cured in one year of treatment.
