Lichen planus is an autoimmune chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting the skin & mucous membrane that affects the quality of life of people by making them suffer from discomforting pain, burning sensation, thick hypertrophied skin, & scaling with purple or violet-colored skin lesions. It often makes adults helpless due to the discomfort, so, when children are affected, it is all the more difficult for them to live with this disease.
But, the good news is, here at Life Force Dr. Rajesh Shah & his team have helped many lichen planus patients from every age group by treating them for this chronic, complicated skin condition. Let’s have a case of a child with lichen planus that was successfully treated at Life Force.
A 10-year-old girl child, Miss. V.C.S. (PIN: 40885) visited Life Force Homeopathy Clinic with her parents on 12th August 2019 for the treatment of Lichen Planus. The patient was suffering from this skin condition since February 2019 but was wrongly treated by considering it as eczema, fungal, pompholyx, prurigo simplex, and scabies. The diagnosis was confirmed on 6th July 2019 through a biopsy that was suggestive of Lichen Planus (LP).
The patient presented with complaints of severe itching that was better by steroidal applications. She also had developed raised purplish lesions on her ankles, abdomen, and face along with hyperpigmented marks, which were masked with Methotrexate and oral corticosteroids. So, the dependency on steroids further complicated the case.
Additionally, there was a hereditary tendency of the skin disease running in her family where her father was suffering from a fungal infection.
At Life Force:
After considering and studying her entire case history in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed her his research-based homeopathic medicines. Also, the child’s parents were informed about the withdrawal effects of steroids briefly along with the need to slowly taper the dose to avoid severe aggravation.
Follow-Ups:
Though her parents were oriented on tapering the steroid dose slowly, it was stopped abruptly; hence, the patient had an aggravation that lasted for 2 months. Based on her follow-up and to treat the continuous aggravation, Dr. Rajesh Shah prescribed an intercurrent medicine to the patient, following which the child started showing great improvement.
By January 2020, the patient was 70% better with only hyperpigmented marks left. No other complaints were present; also, no dependency on any other medicine was there. The patient continued to improve & her treatment was stopped in July 2022 with a complete recovery from all her complaints.
Conclusion:
This case illustrates that the right clinical approach & the best suitable homeopathic remedy can heal even a child with a complex steroid-masked persistent disease like Lichen Planus. Homeopathy can treat steroid-masked lichen planus successfully and safely without any side effects.
