A 30-year-old male patient from Odisha, Mr. A.D. (PIN: 27524) started homeopathic treatment in September 2006 for his complaint of lichen planus.
He was suffering from a discomforting skin condition for 2 years. He noticed the first spot on his tongue. Initially, he thought it was an ulcer due to the intake of hot food or drink. However, later, it started spreading on the body. He was experiencing itching and burning on the skin. He was unable to eat or drink due to oral lesions. He consulted a local doctor and started with steroids for his condition. He noticed an improvement in a few months, but, when he stopped the medicines, the lesions reappeared in his mouth and on the skin. So, he stopped the steroid medicines and started with homeopathy.
The patient’s appetite was average. He had craving for sweet food. His thirst for water was sufficient. The patient had no issues related to the urine and stool. His sleep was sound and refreshing.
The patient was working. He was staying in a joint family. Often, he used to experience stress related to his mother’s illness. The patient was very shy and reserved.
He had no history of any major illness. His mother had suffered from Tuberculosis.
After studying the case in detail, Dr. Shah prescribed some research-based homeopathic medicines along with some diet tips to the patient.
Follow-Ups:
On 5th December 2007, the patient reported that there was a great improvement in his relief with the medicines. All the active spots had subsided after starting the treatment. No new spots had developed, and his lichen planus was under control. The itching and burning were no longer present after 1 year of Life Force’s treatment. The patient discontinued the treatment as he was better now.
On 16th February 2011, the patient reported that the oral lichen planus complaint being relapsed from the past few days. He was experiencing itching and redness in the mouth. A few lesions were also present on his skin. On further evaluation, it was found that the patient had stress and anxiety related to work which could have triggered his complaints. The case was reviewed and medicines were prescribed to the patient.
On 13th June 2012, the patient reported that there was an improvement with the medicines. The itching and redness had reduced than before. The burning in the mouth was reduced. No new lesions had developed, and his old skin lesions were also reducing day by day. He had experienced overall improvement with homeopathic medicines.
On 20th June 2013, he had experienced further improvement with the medicines. The burning in his mouth had reduced. The patient was able to eat normal food now, which he was finding difficult earlier. The itching on the skin had reduced. Hyperpigmented marks were still present, but no new lesions were observed.
On 4th December 2014, the patient reported being almost 70% better with the medicines. The itching was present occasionally. The patient was no more experiencing burning in the mouth. His hyperpigmented marks were also turning lighter. He had experienced overall progress with homeopathic medicines.
On 10th August 2016, the patient reported that he was experiencing an overall improvement with medicines, but, in the past few months, his complaints had increased again. On further evaluation, it was found that the patient had thyroid disorder due to which his lichen planus was triggered. The patient also started treatment for his complaint of underactive thyroid at Life Force.
On 11th April 2017, the patient reported that everything was under control. His thyroid levels had returned to normal. His complaints of lichen planus were also under control. No new lesions or spots had appeared on his skin. The ulcers in his mouth were no longer present. He had experienced an overall improvement with homeopathic medicines. The patient stopped the treatment as he was completely fine.
On 26th July 2019, the patient contacted us again to restart the treatment. He was better for 2 years, but, again, the lesions had started appearing on his legs. His thyroid levels were also very high, and he started with thyroid supplements for the same. The case was reviewed and medicines were prescribed to the patient.
On 2nd August 2020, the patient was improving with the medicines. No new lesions were present on his skin anymore. His recovery from the old lesions was also improving gradually. The itching was minimal now. The ulcers were no more present in his mouth. The patient was overall better with the medicines. He was advised to continue thyroid supplements along with the medicines. He also suffered from psoriasis, for which he had started treatment at Life Force.
On 25th February 2021, the patient updated being perfectly fine. The itching on his skin was no longer present. Active lesions were not present. His hyperpigmented marks were also getting lighter day by day. The patient no more had oral ulcers and was able to eat everything. He had experienced an overall recovery with medicines.

Conclusion:
This case illustrates that homeopathy is highly effective in treating chronic and recurring oral and skin lichen planus incredibly and safely with no side effects.
