22 years old Mr. T. G. (Patient Identification Number - 17672) visited our clinic on 6th December 2011 for his complaints of Lichen Planus. He has been suffering from this for last 1 year. There were minute multiple lesions all over the body. He had also observed lesions developing on his genitals and oral cavity. The lesions were active. There was severe itching. The oral lesions were seen for the last 15 – 20 days. There were white streaks on the mucosa and cheeks. He had taken steroid medication for a few days, 3 months back. His complaints had severely flared up after stopping them. Then he decided to opt for homeopathic treatment.
He also complained of frequent cold; once in 2 months; the colds would remain for 8 – 10 days. He also complained of mild stiffness and pain in the right knee joint for 3 – 4 months.
His appetite was average and he preferred sweet and spicy food. He would perspire profusely. He was sensitive to warm temperature and sun. His bowels were unsatisfactory. His sleep was sound and refreshing.
He was studying Accountancy and he was aiming for becoming a Chartered Accountant. His father was a civil engineer and employed in a government organization. His mother was a housewife. His younger sister was a commerce student.
He described himself as sensitive and affectionate. His past few years had been stressful as he was pursuing his studies and could not achieve success in clearing the exams. He was an average student till the 10th standard, however, he later studied hard and got 90 % marks in the 12th standard. This raised expectations and it was decided that he should become a CA. His parents were at times rough with him when he did not study hard. This did hurt him... The patient would feel bad about it, he would feel anger towards his parents, however, later on, he would get more angry and upset with himself, for his mistakes. His parents were also under pressure for his career and at times would compare him with other people. He would feel indignation and would suppress his anger. He was sad and frustrated with these studies. He considered passing such professional exams a difficult thing to achieve. He felt as if this time, he had taken up a challenge beyond his means...this builds a lot of pressure and stress within.
He thought of changing his vocational field, but his parent's aspirations held him back. If his parents reprimanded him, he would feel hurt. He would shout back in anger or weep. Thereafter he would realize his mistake. He was very friendly with his younger sister. He would tease her and she would fight back. He was naughty and emotional. There was a lot of anger and frustration in him and he was unable to vent out.
Dr. Shah studied his case in detail and prescribed Staphysagria 200c along with some research-based medicines.
He reported 2 months later on 22nd January 2012 with a 30 – 40 % improvement in the skin lesions. The itching had decreased. The lesions had started to dry and heal. The lesions on the chest, back and abdomen showed mild improvement. The oral lesions did not find any relief. His frequent cold also showed significant relief. His knee pain and stiffness were still the same.
After 5 months of medication he reported on 5th April 2012 with an overall 60% improvement. His skin lesions on the chest, back, and abdomen also were healing. There were no active lesions. The oral lesions were significantly reduced but the mild increase did occur. The itching had significantly decreased all over the body.
