Integrating Homeopathy and Diet: A Success Story of IBS Management

Mr. R.Y., a thirty-five-year-old male (Patient ID: 49501), visited the Life Force Homeopathy Chembur clinic in October 2022 for the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

His IBS symptoms began in January 2022 following a course of Azithromycin as per the patient. The condition was characterized by unsatisfactory loose stools with mucus twice daily, along with indigestion, flatulence with heaviness in the abdomen, and acidity. His complaints were aggravated by consuming dairy products and paneer, and he felt better resting and walking.

His daily routine included a 20-30 minute morning walk and following a structured diet pattern with regular meal timings.

Previous treatments included T. Ursocol SR (Ursodeoxycholic acid 450mg) twice a day for 15 days and T. Librax (Clidinium with Chlordiazepoxide, combination of benzodiazepines and anticholinergics) twice a day for 25 days. At the time of consultation, he was taking probiotic capsules twice a day for the past 15 days along with Ayurvedic medicine.

Recent investigations included normal USG and MRI brain findings, though stool examination revealed the presence of bacteria and pus cells (2-3), and slightly elevated liver enzymes SGPT-52 and SGOT-36.

Associated with his primary complaint, the patient had been suffering from frontal sinusitis since 2019. The condition showed slow progression and was of moderate intensity.

The patient was a vegetarian with an average appetite an aversion to spicy food, and a craving for sweets. Predominantly hot in thermal reaction. His perspiration was profuse and generalized. His thirst was moderate with an intake of about 3 liters daily. His sleep was sound, and he preferred sleeping on his left side and abdomen.

The patient worked as an MR at Gracious Company and lived with his spouse and two children - a daughter in seventh standard and a son in fourth standard.
The patient presented as mild, clever, shy, and gentle person. He showed general confidence but lacked it during performance situations. In recent months had seen an increase in anger, which he was trying to control. He displayed good memory, logic, and intelligence.

Family history revealed his father suffered from hypertension.

Past history showed no significant illnesses or surgeries.

Dr. Rajesh Shah MD (Hom) studied the case in detail and prescribed Lycopodium clavatum 30c and Sulphur 30c based on the totality of symptoms.

Follow-ups:
In November 2022, the patient showed improvement with stool frequency reduced to 1-2 times daily and mucus in stool occurring only 1-2 times per week.
By January 2023, the patient reported thirty percent overall improvement, passing well-formed stools 2-3 times daily with mucus 1-2 times weekly and no abdominal cramps.
From February to May 2023, significant progress was noted with 70-80% improvement. Mucus in stools reduced to 1-2 times monthly with no pain, though acidity and flatulence persisted.
August 2023 showed stabilized condition with mild episodes of acidity and gas formation 2-3 times weekly, though the patient needed twenty to twenty-five minutes to pass stools with ineffectual urge 2-3 times daily.
From September 2023 to January 2024, the patient remained stable with no major complaints of acidity, bloating, or abdominal pain. Mucus in stool reduced to once in 2-4 weeks, though the ineffectual urge to pass stool remained a concern.
February 2024 showed a better overall response to homeopathic treatment. Mucus occurred 3-4 times monthly, triggered by stress, with stool frequency normalizing to twice daily.
In May 2024, the patient reported a clear correlation between dietary triggers (milk products and wheat) and symptoms of mucus in stools for 1-2 days post-consumption.
From June to November 2024, a seventy percent overall improvement was maintained. No mucus appeared in stool for one month, though unsatisfactory stools persisted for one and a half months. The patient showed improved tolerance to gluten-rich food and milk products.
December 2024 showed stable improvement with unsatisfactory and sticky stools occurring only with dairy product consumption. The patient maintained improvement by avoiding trigger foods.
During the most recent follow-up in February 2025, the patient showed stable improvement, with the major concern just being unsatisfactory stools.

The patient remains in stable condition under our care, showing sustained progress and a positive trajectory toward further improvement.

This case demonstrates the effectiveness of an integrated approach combining homeopathy with dietary management in treating IBS. The patient''s condition improved significantly from moderate severity to well-managed symptoms through proper identification of dietary triggers and consistent treatment over three years.
