A Retired Businesswoman Overcame Chronic Acidity beyond Antacids
Mrs. B.A., a sixty-eight-year-old woman (Patient ID: 54170), visited the Life Force Homeopathy Chembur clinic on 30th March 2024, seeking treatment for chronic acidity from which she had been suffering for over forty years.
She complained of frequent episodes of heartburn, bloating, heaviness, and acid reflux, which were often triggered by outside food. These episodes occurred once every 15 days, lasting for 4-6 days, but significantly affected her daily routine, during which she took Pan 40 (pantoprazole) antacid, consuming around 8-10 tablets per month, 2 tablets/day for 3-4 days. Despite the use of antacids, symptoms persisted.
In addition to her acidity, she also had a history of migraine for 30 years, underactive thyroid; dependent on thyroid supplements was taking tablets Eltroxin 75 mcg (Mon, Wed, Friday, Sun) and 50 mcg (Tues, Thurs, Sat), and she also suffered from G6PD deficiency for 35 years, but her primary concern was chronic acidity.
Physical generals:
She was a vegetarian with a craving for salads and no specific aversions. She had an average appetite, thirst, and perspiration. She preferred warm temperatures and had been menopausal since she was 53 years old.
Mental generals:
She was a mild, gentle, and confident lady with a brooding nature. She was successfully running her export business but had now retired. She was living with her spouse and had two children, both well-settled.
She had suffered from chicken pox and COVID-19 in the past and has also had a cataract operation for both her eyes and surgery for fibroadenoma. She has a family history of cardiomyopathy.
Dr. Shah (MD) studied the case and prescribed Phosphorus 30c. The remedy was selected based on her long history of acidity and symptoms of bloating, acid reflux, and nausea during the episodes. Dr Shah also recommended lifestyle changes to avoid food triggers and manage stress.
Follow-ups:
During her first follow-up done on 22nd June 2024, the patient reported marked improvement in the severity of her symptoms even though the frequency of acidity episodes remained the same.
The second follow-up was conducted on 3rd August 2024. The patient was 50% better, with reduced frequency and intensity of acidity episodes. Since the last follow-up, she had taken Tab Pan 40 once daily for 3 days only for heaviness and bloating in her abdomen.
The patient on 25th September 2024 said her condition had improved by 60-65%, and there had been no episodes of severe acidity since the last follow-up. She had reduced her Tab Pan 40 intake and only consumed it once as a precaution while travelling, as her meals were significantly delayed.
On 8th November 2024, the patient said that she was experiencing nausea, abdominal discomfort, and slight bloating of the abdomen since one day and had taken Tab Pan 40 that morning; however, other than that, she was overall 70% better.
For her latest follow-up done on 18th December 2024, the patient reported being all well; she just had mild abdominal discomfort and decreased appetite for 2-3 days in the last month due to anxiety related to her mother's health issues, which resolved after taking T. Pan 40, one tablet.
Conclusion:
This case demonstrates the potential of homeopathic treatment in managing chronic acidity and related symptoms with significant improvement in both frequency and severity of episodes. The patient showed significant improvement in managing her chronic acidity and related symptoms through homeopathy with reduced dependency on antacids. The homeopathic treatment, combined with lifestyle changes and stress management, led to lasting relief and enhanced overall quality of life.
