An Elderly Mucinous Adenocarcinoma Patient Found Immense Relief & Experienced Weight Gain & Improved Appetite with Homeopathy
A 78-year-old Mucinous Adenocarcinoma patient (PIN: 47409) visited the Chembur clinic on 15th February 2022 with the complaints such as pain in the anus, difficulty in sitting, difficulty in passing the stool, hard stools and passing once daily, and unsatisfactory bowels.
History of the Patient:
The patient was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus for the last 20 years. The patient was diagnosed with horseshoe fistula-in-ano with abscess and operated on in December 2021. Histopathology reports of the operated fistula indicated Mucinous Adenocarcinoma.
MRI scan on 3rd February 2022 showed an intensely enhancing soft tissue density mass lesion seen related to the anal verge infiltrating the posterior wall of the anal canal, and adjacent ischioanal post reaching up to the levator and muscles on both sides. Infiltration is also detected into the skin and subcutaneous tissue at the level of gluteal cleft and anal verge. [11.01. 2022 CA - 19.9: 273 (H)]
On Medication:
The patient was advised to have radiation therapy starting after 10 days. He was on medications, namely Tab Ultracet 50 mg (BD)for 15 days and Isabgul (stool softener).
Family’s Medical History:
The patient had a family history of Diabetes (Mother) and Prostate Cancer (Father).
Personal History:
The patient had no specific craving or aversion. He was following a complete veg diet, and, occasionally, used to have alcohol. His bowel movements were unsatisfactory.
The patient was consulted and was explained the scope of homeopathy in cancer cases. Conventional treatment options for cancer (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.) are associated with distressing side effects and homeopathy can play a definitive role in countering these side effects. Homeopathic medicines can also be administered along with conventional medication, and, thus, they can fulfill their role as a complementary treatment for cancer management.
The first follow-up of the patient was on 16th March 2022, his pain in the rectum had reduced. The patient had started with radiation therapy, completed his 15 sittings, and had complaints such as burning in the rectum and anus, frequent stool 4-5 times/morning, and generalized weakness.
On 13th April 2022, the patient had no pains in the rectum. The burning in the rectum during the passing of stool was present. He had completed 30 sittings of Radiation Therapy and was advised for MRI after 2 months.
In further follow-ups, the intensity of the complaints such as pain and burning in the rectum had reduced and the patient felt better overall. He had regained his appetite.
MRI of the Rectum on 10th June 2022 revealed:
Overall compared to the previous MRI of 3rd Feb 2022, the mass encircling the posterior circumference of the anal canal extended rostrally till the levator shelf, without supra levator extension, with a perianal fistula reaching inferiorly to the right side of the natal cleft to the anal verge, as described, has remained essentially stable in extent and morphology. No significant internal development is seen.
In the follow-up after the MRI scan, the patient had no complaints and also regained his appetite. He was feeling better in general and gaining weight again.
The patient was stable and asymptomatic till May 2023, and, recently, he had complaints of narrowing anal passage as a late side effect of radiation therapy and is under treatment for it.
Conclusion:
This case illustrates that homeopathy can help in improving the general well-being and vitality of the patient with Mucinous Adenocarcinoma. Conventional treatment options for cancer (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.) are associated with distressing side effects and homeopathy can play a definitive role in countering these side effects.
The advantage of administering Homeopathic medicines in such cases is that there can be effective pain control without inducing any side effects.
