Critical Care Doctor Found Relief in His Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes weakness of voluntary muscles, primarily those that control the eyes and eyelids, facial expressions, chewing, swallowing, and speaking. Symptoms include drooping eyelids, double vision, general muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, low-pitched voice, and difficulty speaking. The condition is often difficult to manage with conventional treatments, especially for those who are not responsive to medications or who experience significant side effects.
This case study discusses the experience of a critical care specialist doctor who sought relief from his Myasthenia Gravis symptoms through homeopathy at Life Force Homeopathy. This case highlights the potential benefits of homeopathy in managing autoimmune diseases.
Case Study:
A 65-year-old critical care specialist doctor took an online consultation at Life Force Homeopathy, Jayanagar branch, on January 15, 2024, (Patient ID:53471) for Myasthenia Gravis. He had been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 2010. As a highly skilled physician, he was acutely aware of the complexities involved in managing his condition. Despite being on conventional medical treatments, including immunosuppressant’s, corticosteroids, and cholinesterase inhibitors, the patient continued to experience significant symptoms, including left-sided facial drooping, muscle weakness, myalgia, morning stiffness, a low-pitched voice, difficulty talking, and trouble climbing stairs or lifting heavy objects.
These symptoms severely impacted his professional and personal life, and conventional treatments were not providing the relief he sought. He had been taking Gravitor 60 mg tablets for the past 1.5 years.
Additionally, the side effects of the medication, such as weight gain, mood changes, and gastrointestinal discomfort, further contributed to his deteriorating quality of life.
A detailed case history was taken, considering both his mental and physical health. His past medical and family histories were also reviewed and updated.
Physical Make-Up:
He had an average appetite and was a non-vegetarian. He craved spicy food, sweets, and eggs. He had average thirst and drank approximately 3 liters of water daily. He experienced average perspiration and could not tolerate extreme temperatures. His bowel movements were satisfactory. Due to an enlarged prostate, he had to strain while urinating and experienced increased frequency. He reported disturbed sleep and preferred lying on his back or left side.
Psychological Make-Up:
He had a happy childhood with a supportive family, and his married life was also satisfactory. He was mild, gentle, and very polite by nature. He had an unknown fear of failure and public interaction. He experienced short bursts of anger and a loss of interest in activities.
His memory, intelligence, logic, perception, and analytical skills were all intact.
After evaluating the entire case, Dr. Rajesh Shah prescribed medicines. Along with the treatment, Dr. Shah recommended lifestyle changes and stress management techniques, such as regular breathing exercises, meditation, and maintaining a balanced work-life routine, to help the patient manage professional stress and emotional triggers.
Follow-Ups:
During his initial consultation on March 12, 2024, the patient reported a 60% improvement in muscle strength. Episodes of body pain and weakness had reduced to three to four instances over the past two months. Morning stiffness improved by 80%. However, there was no change in the low-pitched voice during prolonged talking or in the left-sided facial weakness.
By May 10, 2024, the difficulty in speaking and low-pitched voice had improved by 60%. No further improvement in muscle strength was noted since the last follow-up. The patient reported only one episode of body pain over the past two months after exercise. Overall, his condition had improved by 60%.
By September 13, 2024, the patient reported a 70% improvement. He was also able to stop taking Gravitor tablets.
The patient is still undergoing homeopathic treatment and remains stable. There has been no deterioration in symptoms, even after discontinuing Gravitor. This was a significant achievement, as these medications often have long-term side effects.
Conclusion:
This case illustrates the potential benefits of homeopathy in managing chronic autoimmune conditions like Myasthenia Gravis. Through a comprehensive, individualized approach that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of the disease, homeopathy provides the patient with symptomatic relief and improved quality of life.
While conventional treatments for Myasthenia Gravis are often necessary and beneficial for many patients, this case highlights the importance of exploring complementary therapies such as homeopathy. These may offer relief for those who do not respond well to traditional treatments or who suffer from intolerable side effects.
