Homeopathy Enables Gluten Reintroduction in Coeliac Patient

In May 2022, an existing patient reached out to us seeking homeopathic treatment for his nine-year-old daughter (Patient Identification Number: 48180) who had been diagnosed with coeliac disease.

Coeliac disease is a condition affecting the small intestine, characterized by an immune response triggered by gluten consumption. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, anaemia, and various other complaints that can significantly impact the patient's overall health.

Initially, the symptoms were mild during her early years, manifesting as occasional diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, particularly after consuming roti (wheat bread). However, as she grew older, her diet increasingly consisted of rotis twice daily, along with snacking on biscuits, bread, pizzas, and similar items, exacerbating her symptoms and significantly impacting her overall health. Recently diagnosed, her parents were deeply concerned as she became lethargic, and was not gaining weight as expected.

The patient experienced abdominal pain on a daily basis, occurring at least twice a day. Additionally, she endured two to three major episodes per month characterized by severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Her appetite had diminished, weight showed no signs of improvement, and she had become lethargic and unenergetic, refraining from engaging in any physical activities, as reported by her parents.

Here are the patient's diagnostic findings:

- September 15, 2021:

- tTG IgA (Tissue Transglutaminase IgA): Positive (64.8)

- September 22, 2021:

- Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy:

- Findings suggestive of Coeliac disease:

- Duodenitis and scalloping of duodenal folds

- Presence of a few subcentimetric lymph nodes

- September 23, 2021:

- Histopathological Examination (HPE) of Duodenal Biopsy:

- Significant findings consistent with Coeliac disease (Marsh 3b):

- Marked villous atrophy

- Increased intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL)

- Crypt hyperplasia

The girl's father, having previously experienced complete recovery from Lichen planus through our treatment, approached us directly for her care, placing full trust in our treatment approach.

The parents were educated and counselled regarding their daughter's disease, along with guidance on implementing changes in her dietary habits.

After thorough examination of her case, Dr. Shah recommended a course of his researched-based homeopathic medicines to be taken over eight weeks.

Follow-ups:

During the initial follow-up, there were no noticeable improvements. Being a child, the patient insisted on consuming gluten-based snacks like biscuits, cakes, pizza, and bread. Dr. Shah prescribed treatment again and emphasized advice regarding her dietary habits.

After another eight weeks, the patient showed significant improvement. Apart from mild episodes of abdominal discomfort following the consumption of cakes and biscuits, which resolved on their own without conventional treatment, there were no major complaints. Dr. Shah continued prescribing homeopathic medicines.

Around six to eight months into the treatment, the patient experienced no episodes of abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, even after consuming gluten-based foods like biscuits two to three times a week. She was advised to monitor her weight and received further prescriptions from Dr. Shah.

After another two to four months, the patient gradually reintroduced roti (gluten-based Indian flatbread) into her diet. She began consuming two rotis daily, along with daily intake of biscuits, bread, and occasional pizza and cakes. Apart from occasional gas and mild abdominal discomfort, the patient remained free from major episodes. Her appetite normalized, her weight improved, and she regained her playful behaviour as reported by her parents.

Recent reports as of January 24, 2024, indicate a significant improvement:

tTG IgA: 0.74 (Negative)

Dr. Shah has continued prescribing homeopathic medicines for the patient and advised her to continue with the treatment for few more months to monitor her case.

Conclusion:

This case underscores the remarkable outcomes achievable through homeopathic treatment, particularly under the guidance of an experienced expert like Dr. Shah. With his extensive experience in handling challenging cases, Dr. Shah's use of researched-based homeopathic medicines not only managed the patient's oversensitivity to gluten but also offered effective symptom relief, even with daily consumption of gluten-based foods. Remarkably, the patient no longer relies on conventional medications following her treatment.
