Homeopathy for the Engineer's Anal Fissure Fix
A 34-year-old female patient, who is an engineer by profession, came to the clinic for the treatment of a chronic anal Fissure with a history of contributing factors, including post-pregnancy piles, chronic constipation, and straining. The patient was very shy, sensitive, and reserved in nature, also she felt very awkward in the beginning during an initial consultation, to share her complaints but subsequently, when asked carefully and when her trust had built up she opened up and mentioned her complaints in detail. Her husband, who accompanied her, highlighted her introverted personality, emphasizing her tendency to suppress emotions, including anger and distress, which often go unnoticed.
She was suffering from complaints of chronic anal fissure which was approximately 1 cm in size. The symptoms began post-pregnancy in 2019. Her primary complaints were severe burning pain during and after passing the stool and the pain remained persisting for up to 40 minutes post-stool. She mentioned moderate rectal pain which was exacerbated by spicy food and night duties. Post-delivery the patient developed chronic constipation with stools becoming progressively harder. The hard stools required significant straining often around 20 minutes and her stools were unsatisfactory. The fissure developed post-pregnancy after the patient experienced Grade 2 piles during her pregnancy.
The long-term use of Lignocaine gel provided only temporary relief and it became a daily necessity to manage her burning and pain.
The aggravating factors were, that eating the slightest spicy foods aggravated her symptoms, also sedentary desk work; and prolonged sitting for the job contributed to her irregular bowel movements, and night duties irregular schedules, and stress worsened her symptoms. Because of the discomfort during office hours, she had difficulty focusing on work; making her more stressed and frustrated. Hence, the patient had come to take homeopathic treatment as a permanent solution for her fissure-in-ano.
Physical generals:
She was very fond of sweets and thermally chilly. As mentioned she suffered from chronic constipation and didn’t have any urinary complaints.
After a detailed case history, the patient was prescribed an individualized homeopathic remedy. The remedy targeted her physical symptoms and also supported her emotionally through individualized constitutional treatment. She has advised some lifestyle modifications to engage in regular physical activity to improve bowel health and increase water intake and dietary fibre.
Follow-ups:
She started taking treatment in February 2023, and within 2 months patient felt 20-30 % better.
By November 2024 patient had a 70% improvement in all her symptoms, her burning sensation was markedly reduced, her difficulty while passing stools improved, her bleeding was also stopped, and the patient was satisfied with the treatment.
She has been suggested to continue the treatment for the long term for further recovery and to prevent relapses in the future.
Conclusion:
Using analgesic gels or painkillers and laxatives cannot cure anal fissures, Homoeopathy helps to treat Fissure-in-ano effectively, and most of the cases heal and do not require surgery.
