How a Gujarat Woman Overcame Allergic Rhinitis with Homeopathy

A patient from Surat, Gujarat consulted online with the Life Force team for a complaint of Allergic Rhinitis from which she was struggling for 20 years. Though initially mild, her condition had started significantly getting worse in the last 4-5 years, reaching moderate intensity. Her mornings began a daily struggle wherein she faced complaints of watery coryza and sticky nasal discharge which lasted throughout the day. She complained of 2-4 bouts of sneezing accompanied by fatigue and discomfort. Persistent itching at the root of her nose added to her misery, though she didn’t complain of nose block. She mentioned having weekly headaches which had worsened her quality of life, further challenging her daily routine. Her worst enemies, which constantly brought on symptoms, were sawdust, kerosene, dust, perfumes, and strong odours.

Beyond allergic rhinitis, she was suffering from asthma, and sinusitis and she had DNS (deviated nasal septum). She was diagnosed with asthma 3 years ago and experienced severe episodes only in winter, and her asthma was stable with Seroflow inhaler 125 (HS), which she had been using for the past six months. She mentioned experiencing breathlessness, chest heaviness, dry cough, and a sensation of stuck sputum in her throat during asthmatic episodes. There was a strong genetic link between allergies, her grandmother suffered from asthma and her mother had skin allergies. After years of persistent symptoms which took a toll on her mental and emotional well-being she took a step toward healing, seeking relief, she started treatment with Life Force under Dr. Shah’s care on 9th November 2016 (Patient ID:30258).

Apart from respiratory issues, she struggled with indigestion complaints like flatulence, tastelessness, and loud eructations. Her gastric symptoms would get worse by eating oily foods, bananas, and apples. She was obese and weighed around 72.4 kg.

Diagnostic findings:

Elevated IgE Levels: Her IgE level was 169 (H) highlighting an underlying allergic tendency.

A CT scan on 28th July 2016 revealed a right-sided nasal septum deviation in the bony segment.

Sinus Findings: The scan also confirmed bilateral fronto-ethmoidal and maxillary rhino sinusitis of the infundibular type.

Physical generals:

She was a vegetarian with an average appetite and had cravings for sweets. She had an average thirst and drank around 3 liters of water daily. She was ambithermal and sensitive to both hot and cold weather. Her bowel movements and urination were satisfactory. She had a sound sleep and had no dreams as such.

Mental generals:

The patient was unhappy because of some personal conflicts with her husband. She mentioned her husband was dominating by nature and always tried to control her, because of this they had frequent fights.

Dr.Shah prescribed a constitutional remedy PULSATILLA NIGRICANS 30 based on her case history.

Follow-ups:

At her initial follow-up on January 1st, 2017, the patient informed us that along with homoeopathic treatment, she was also taking Tab. Xyzal every day and was a little better, with less watery coryza, less nose itching, and less sneezing.

Her second follow-up was on April 4, 2017, and she reported that she had only experienced two to three mild episodes in the previous three months, that her watery coryza had significantly decreased, that her nose was itching less, that her persistent nasal discharge had improved, and she has tapered the use of antihistamine, rather than taking it on daily basis she was taking Tab. Xyzal on alternate days.

By the time of her third follow-up on June 30, 2017, the patient had significantly improved in all of her complaints and was 50–60% better.

Her fourth follow-up was in November 2017, and because of seasonal changes, her complaints got worse. The patient took antihistamines to treat the watery discharge, sneezing, and nose itching. Dr. Rajesh Shah revised the medicines.

On January 24, 2018, in her fifth follow-up, her complaints had improved, and she was taking antihistamines every other day.

When her next check-up was scheduled for September 25, 2018, she was 90% better, her watery coryza had significantly improved, her sneezing and itching had significantly decreased, and she had stopped taking antihistamines for a period of two months.

Since her last follow-up on November 02, 2020, the patient has not experienced any episodes of complaints in the previous five to six months.

The patient updated that she was fully recovered and that she was cured. Since then, the treatment has been discontinued.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the aforementioned case demonstrates how homeopathy targets a person's unique symptoms and constitution. As a result, homoeopathic remedies helped reduce the need for conventional medications and alleviate allergic reactions, providing a comprehensive holistic approach to managing chronic allergic conditions.
