Mumbai-Based Chartered Accountant Finds Relief in Her Lumbar Spondylosis

Mrs. S.V.R., a 52-year-old woman (Patient ID:16795) came to the Chembur branch, along with her son, to seek medical intervention for her lower back pain which was there since 2008 and increased in the past 2 months. She presented with lower back pain and stiffness.  The pain was more of a piercing type, at times cutting type of pain that radiated to the left knee and calf muscle. The pain would get worse after lifting weights and at night especially around 11 pm.  The MRI report was suggestive of a disc bulge between the 4th & 5th Lumbar Vertebrae as well as between the 5th lumbar vertebra & the sacrum was compression of the nerve roots exiting from the affected areas. The likely diagnosis was Lumbar spondylosis.

Lumbar spondylosis refers to the degeneration of the spine in the lower back (lumbar region). It is commonly caused by the natural ageing process, leading to wear and tear on the vertebrae, intervertebral discs, and other components of the spine. Spondylosis involves the breakdown of these structures, which may result in pain, stiffness, and, in some cases, nerve compression.

Apart from painkiller gels and Ayurvedic oils, she was not on any medications, she was not taking any oral medicines.

PHYSICAL GENERALS:

The patient follows a veg diet and has an average appetite with aversion to brinjal. Her urinary function was normal his bowel movements were satisfactory and her sleep was disturbed due to pain.

Family History and background:

The patient studied CA and was working along with her husband who is also a CA and lived with her son and daughter.

MENTAL GENERALS:

The patient had a strong bond with her family members and she was naturally affectionate. The patient is naturally anxious and constantly worries about little things.

Based on the detailed case taking, Dr Shah has prescribed Silica 1m

Homeopathic treatment was started with the goals of reducing the duration and intensity of pain, improving the quality of life, and reducing the dependency on conventional treatment. The medicines were introduced as long-term measures to strengthen immunity and thereby prolong the wear and tear of joints.

Follow-ups:

When the patient was called for the first follow-up on 26th September, the pain was the same. Since the pain was affecting her daily routine she has started doing electrotherapy for pain relief.

By 5th November, the patient got 70% relief; she was able to stand for a long time.

By 11th December, the patient said she was 90% better, her stiffness had reduced a lot and she was freely able to do her daily chores also she started to get a good night's sleep!

The patient thanked Dr. Shah and the entire team for the successful treatment in a short period and her entire family started believing firmly in homeopathy.

CONCLUSION:

Homeopathy offers a gentle and holistic approach to managing lumbar spondylosis, with remedies that address pain, stiffness, and inflammation, as well as emotional factors contributing to the condition. While homeopathy can be beneficial for symptom relief, improving mobility, and supporting overall well-being, it should be considered as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes conventional medical care and lifestyle modifications, especially in cases of advanced degeneration or nerve involvement.
